Gameday

I had a chance to speak with the Broncos new Assistant General Manager yesterday. Sheldon Ferguson will meet the team some time tonight in Moose Jaw.

He sounds excited to get started and get back to his roots. You can hear our interview tonight on the pre-game show just before the Broncos face-off with the Warriors. Catch it on the Eagle 94.1 FM starting at 6:30pm. You can also catch it on streaming www.scbroncos.com under listen live at the bottom of the page.

The Broncos take on what should be a fired up Warriors team tonight after taking an 11-1 loss to Saskatoon in their last outing.

Broncos Assistant Coach Tim Kehler addressed that Sunday night following the Broncos/Raiders game:

"It's a team that has certainly struggled here over the last number of weeks. I'm sure Hunch (Warriors Head Coach Dave Hunchak) will be playing the pride card and expect a lot from their guys. That is a team we have played well against and a building we have played well in. A lot of it is because you really need to compete hard in the small confines of the Crushed Can. I think it brings out the best in a lot of our guys."

The Broncos are trying to string some wins together after a 6-3 win over Prince Albert Sunday. They haven't won back-to-back games in the New Year and are 4-7 in the month of January.

It will also be the first look at the Warriors since their last meeting way back on November 1st. The Broncos have won 10 of the last 11 meetings the past two years and safe to say have had their fair share of breaks along the way.

I talked with John Negrin's dad David last night for an intermission feature we do all season long called "Homegrown Heroes". I found some interesting things about John:

- At grade 8 he was offered a chance to move to Europe to pursue a career in soccer. He had to make the decision between the two sports at a young age.

- John was his own agent when negotiating his NHL contract with Calgary. His dad admits he played a little hardball with the Flames before accepting.

- There were seven teams interested in him at the trade deadline including Spokane, Kelowna and Vancouver.

The full feature will run tonight in the 2nd intermission.

More tonight from the Moose Jaw Civic Center.....
