Here's the story Medicine Hat TV did on the 2010 Ford World Curling Championships being denied by the Medicine Hat Tigers and being picked up by Swift Current.

What an embarrassment this was to Medicine Hat. And with the talent they're about to lose this year? I can't imagine the uproar of they don't even qualify for the post season.
But then again, with Swift our of their rink, the MH Arena wouldn't be a bad place for the Broncos to play as the "home team."
In the past other Saskatchewan teams in the WHL have risked the first round of the playoffs for a major community event. As recently as 2007 the Saskatoon Blades risked the first round of their playoffs so Saskatoon could host the Junos, as it worked out the Blades missed the playoffs and it was a non-issue, but the team endorsed the event from the beginning and was supportive even though they knew the effect on the team in the playoffs but knew the broader positive effect on the community to host such a prestigious event.
Swift Current is given a World Championship and all people can think about is the Broncos and the first round of the playoffs? How backwater and inbred is the community if they can not look beyond two hockey games. The Broncos are perennially contenders (and always seem to make it to the second round) and yes the economic effect of losing two games in the playoffs is drastic for a community owned team but it is not like this event has eliminated the I-plex for the entire playoffs.
Swift Current give your heads a shake and worse is murmurs out there that the Broncos although having endorsed this event are doing everything in their power to sabotage this event (giving ticketing the run around when it comes to manifesting the event) which does not bode well for any other Saskatchewan community wanting to host this event or any other world event. Which given this championship is in the home town of our premier is even more of an embarrassment.
The Cyclones will gladly share the MC Arena with the Broncos this post season.......but more realistically the "crushed can" will be available I am sure.
How can the Broncos be sabatoging the curling event with ticketing issues. The iplex is a city building so they should be handling all the ticketing stuff, it shouldn't even involve the Broncos. Is someone trying to stir things up again....

Especially if the Broncos/Tigers meet in the opening round.
Don't think the Broncos would use Medicine Hat as a potential home venue if available.
It would be a hostile environment unless the Broncos were playing let say... Lethbridge.
Thanks for the video link KJ

I don't hear a lot of opposition to the event now. No one is publicly opposing the Worlds.
As for the other things you mention I haven't seen it.
Why would you apply for an event that you were not 100% certain to actually host it?
