Went down to training camp briefly...and noticed a few things.
- Both Broncos import players are no-shows. Finnish G Joni Ortio has said he's not coming this season and as expected F Jan Dalecky is not at camp and looks to be staying in his native Czech Republic.
- Over-age F Michael Stickland is also not at camp because of a recent injury. I'm not sure on his timetable for joining the hockey club.
- Couple players caught my attention in the Team Sakic practice this morning. 15 year-old Evan Richardson was flying around on the drills and using his speed to easily go around defenseman in his '94 age group. He's a good mix of speed and hands. Blinding speed for 15. Dangerous scoring potential from this guy.
- 16 year-old Nicco DiGiovannantonio looks to be strong. The 6th round pick from 2008 caught my attention. I hope he plays in the league at some point much to the chagrin of every WHL announcer.
- Team Sakic's practice was a rough one for the goaltenders.
- There is a trio of special guests participating in camp. F Keegan Dansereau, who played out his WHL eligibility last season, is skating with the team in preparation for Ottawa Senators camp.
Recent Broncos Zack Smith and Dale Weise are also taking in the camp for conditioning purposes before attending Senators and Rangers camp.
There's two scrimmages later today at 4pm and then again at 7pm.
More later.....
