Broncos Head North Tonight

It's off to HockeyTown North as they call it up in Prince Albert tonight. This is the 5th meeting of the season between the teams - the Broncos have won all previous four. The Raiders are coming off a big win in Saskatoon last night 4-1 to jump ahead of the Broncos by two points for third spot in the division.

Prince Albert seemingly hasn't missed a beat since trading A.J. Thelen to Vancouver at the deadline, in fact they are 5-3 in their last 8 games. Should be a good match-up as the Broncos look to end a six-game losing skid. The Raiders have been getting solid goaltending from Jesse Deckert lately. Kyle Bortis should make his return to the Broncos line-up coming off an ankle injury. He was hurt in the last game before the Christmas break in Saskatoon.

Thanks to "Hunch" yesterday. Broncos Assistant Coach Dave Hunchak helped get me un-stuck yesterday on my street, it just so happens he was passing by when I was having some issues with traction.

I stopped by practice yesterday, they've been pretty intense lately. The boys though still find time to give it to me over my failed shootout attempt during the Skills Challenge. Bortis and Gervais were the ringleaders on Wednesday. Thanks guys.

I talked with former Broncos captain Dustin Friesen this week. He just won a gold medal at the World University Games in Italy with Canada's hockey team. The interview will air Sunday night before the Broncos/Hitmen game.

Had a chat with Larry Doyle - father of Broncos defenseman Eric Doyle for an upcoming "Homegrown Heroes" feature. Larry is a former Lethbridge Broncos player from the mid 80's. He says he's a regular blog reader too. Thanks Larry! Look forward to meeting you during Parents Weekend later this month.

Broncos and Raiders on the air at 7pm, play-by-play at 7:30. I'll post a recap tomorrow morning.

Have a great weekend,
Jon
