Broncos F Cody Eakin scored the opening goal for Team White in a 3-2 win over Team Red in the opening day of Canada's World Junior Selection Camp in Regina.
Eakin scored in the end of game shootout as well.
It was a good opening day for Eakin who by the numbers appears to be in tough to make the team. He will have to have a great camp and so far he's doing that.
Cody was the 10th forward for Team White and rotated in playing both wings and center.
Here's why Cody may face an uphill battle:
1) He's not a returning player
2) He's only 18
3) He's not a first round draft pick like many of the players in camp are
4) He's not an undrafted top prospect: ex: Taylor Hall
So after Hockey Canada takes these players fitting the above criteria there may be only one or two spots left.
Cody will have to play his way on to the team. If anyone can do it though, he can.
His Bronco teammates, coaching staff, fans and this broadcaster are all cheering for him.
