Shootout Loss

The Kamloops Blazers fought back from 2-0 2nd period deficit to take an early third period 3-2 lead only to lose 4-3 in a shootout to the Spokane Chiefs.

It was another one of those games the Blazers felt they were the better team. The Blazers outshot the Chiefs 46-33 but G James Reid was on his game. He made several saves late in the third and then seven in overtime to get his team into the shootout.

Mitch Holmberg scored the only goal in the three-round shootout for a Spokane 4-3 win.

The Blazers got goals from Austin Madaisky, Chase Schaber and Brendan Ranford. The Blazers got a huge lift after a 5-on-3 penalty kill for a 1:23. Seconds Ranford got in behind the Spokane defense and was sprung on a nice feed from Chase Schaber to give the Blazers the temporary lead.

Newly acquired Chiefs tough-guy Darren Kramer tied the game midway through the period.

The Blazers get the single point but felt like it was a game for the taking.

Spokane played pretty solid for two periods I thought. They had some breakdowns in the third and the Blazers capitalized.

It was good to see Kirk Fraser honoured by Radio NL before the game. The Voice of the Blazers for the past 11 seasons was presented with a gift and a thank-you from Radio NL's Jim Reynolds before the opening face-off.

Kirk will be getting some play-by-play time in with Shaw TV in the coming weeks when he heads out to do the Eastern division match-ups.

The Prince Albert Raiders pay a visit Friday night. They were due to arrive sometime late tonight as they begin their BC division swing.
