Blazers Sign Calvin

News Release:

The Kamloops Blazers have announced the signing of sixteen year old forward Dallas Calvin to a WHL contract. Calvin is a native of Trail, BC and was listed by the Blazers in September 2010.

The hulking 6’3”, 205lb forward played this season in Jr. B with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL).. He had a strong year scoring 17 times, and adding 23 assists for 40 points in 40 games. Calvin was even better in the playoffs where he had 17 points in 12 games for the Nitehawks.

"Dallas has had a great season,” said Director of Player Personnel Matt Recchi. “He already has a year of junior hockey under his belt, and we believe he has the tools to become an impact player and make our team next season.”

Calvin has a late birthday which means he isn’t eligible for the NHL Draft until 2013. He will be practicing with the Blazers for the rest of the week.

Dallas is a hell of an athlete. He made some major progress from when I saw him at Trail's spring camp a year ago to when I saw him again in the fall. I'm sure he's come even further throughout the year with a good program in Beaver Valley.

He's also a terrific ball player. Threw a couple of no hitters when I was covering him a couple of summers ago.

Good family too. Got to know his dad pretty well and he's good people. He's a nice pick-up for the Blazers.
