If selected as "Kraft Hockeyville 2009", Humboldt will host a National Hockey League pre-season game in the Elgar Petersen Arena which CBC Hockey Night in Canada will broadcast. Humboldt will also receive $100,000 from Kraft to upgrade the arena. The runners-up will each receive $25,000 to be used for arena upgrades.

"This has been a great experience," Humboldt Mayor Malcolm Eaton said. "The excitement and enthusiasm in the community has been phenomenal as has the support from the rest of the province. It has really helped to boost community spirit. The Elgar Petersen Arena is about 25 years old. We plan to use whatever money we receive for renovations and upgrades that will make the arena a premiere facility for the next 25 years. That includes improving accessibility and energy efficiency."

This has been an amazing example of community spirit for Humboldt! The activities planned around The visit from CBC/HNIC was used to raise money for Special Olympics, TeleMiracle and the local food bank. Humboldt and surrounding area has already gained huge rewards from the experience and now winning it all would be the "icing on the cake". Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. We are poised to show all of Canada that Saskatchewan is Hockeyville and Humboldt just happens to be the place behind the current campaign.
