Tassone Out For Remainder of Season

Broncos leading goal scorer Matt Tassone is set to undergo season ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday.

The 19 year-old has been battling problems in both his left and right shoulders forcing him to miss a set of games at four different times over the year.

The Sherwood Park, AB native spoke with a specialist on Friday in Edmonton in which the news came down.

Tassone was having a break out season that included 36 goals in 52 games.

"It is unfortunate to lose Matt at this point in the season. We had hoped he would be able to return but after consultation with the doctors at the Glen Sather clinic in Edmonton, they have decided to do the surgery immediately. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game and all teams have to deal with this throughout the season and we are no different," commented Broncos Head Coach/GM Dean Chynoweth.

Although a blow to the team, the Broncos have had success without Tassone in the line-up including the current five-game winning streak.

Tassone will have surgery Tuesday on one shoulder and then surgery on the other in April. After a rehab process he’s expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
