1989 Memorial Cup Team To Be Inducted

In conjunction with the anniversary of the Memorial Cup win, the Broncos have announced that the 1989 Memorial Cup Team will be inducted into the Broncos’ Hall of Fame this summer.

The 1989 team finished the regular season with a 55-16-1 record good for 111 points and top spot in the WHL, 27 points better than the Portland Winter Hawks. The team was led by Tisdale’s 139 points. Tisdale and Peter Kasowski were both in the top ten in WHL scoring that season. It was a record breaking year for the Broncos as they won 33 of 36 home games, which is still a WHL record as is the 180 power-play goals in a season. Trevor Kruger’s 47 wins in a season is 4th best all time for goaltenders and the team had five 100 point scorers, 3rd best all-time. In the post-season, the Broncos went 12-0 through the Western League playoffs, defeating Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Portland en route to the Memorial Cup. In the Memorial Cup, the team faced: the host Blades, the Peterborough Petes and the Laval Titan. Defenseman Dan Lambert was named tournament MVP. Lambert, Tisdale and Sheldon Kennedy were named tournament all-stars.

This year’s event will combine the Hall of Fame Banquet and the Wellington West Golf Tournament. The RBC Dominion Securities banquet will take place Friday July 17th in the Canadian Room Lounge at the Credit Union i-plex starting at 6:00PM. The Wellington West golf tournament will be held at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club on Saturday July 18th at 1:00PM

The Broncos past inductees into the Hall of Fame include: Bryan Trottier, Tiger Williams, Todd Holt and last year’s inductees: Tyler Wright and Andy Schneider.

So what are they planning on doing with Graham James? Like Swift Current needs his picture on there.

Lots of changes in the WHL as of late Keener, including a pretty big one in Moose Jaw.
Whats your thoughts....and why no update...even a weekly one to know you are still alive.
