Broncos Trade G Morgan Clark to PG

The Swift Current Broncos have solved a log-jam of 20 year-olds in their crease by shipping 20 year-old goaltender Morgan Clark to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a 7th round 2011 bantam pick.

Clark was traded to the Broncos at the 08/09 trade deadline from Red Deer.

The move leaves the Broncos with 20 year-old G Mark Friesen as the only returning goaltender to camp.

Clark, the native of Dallas Texas was a 7th round pick of the Vancouver Canucks but was never signed.

News release from the Broncos will follow.

Update:.

Swift Current, SK---The Swift Current Broncos’ Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb has announced the club has traded over-age goaltender Morgan Clark to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a 7th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2011.

Clark was acquired by the Broncos at the trade deadline in 2009 from the Red Deer Rebels for a 5th round Bantam Draft pick. Last season Clark posted a 24-14-1-2 record and had a 2.92 Goals Against Average while splitting time with Mark Friesen between the pipes.

Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb had to free up some room in a busy crease. “With two 20 year old goaltenders, we have to move one of them. We hope Morgan gets an opportunity to be a number one goalie in Prince George.”

With the move, the Broncos now have four 20 year olds on the roster including: Justin Dowling, Stepan Novotny, Travis Bobbee and Mark Friesen.

Well, I can't say I am surprised but wish Morgan all the best. Any word on Novotny or the other imports coming to camp Jon?

With Bobbee, Friesen, Dowling and Novotany as 20 year olds, lots of different things could happen. Dowling could try to go pro or play in Europe, Novotany is a 20 year old Euro but if Dowling goes pro could maybe stay with Broncos, Friesen will probably stay but what about the status of Ortio and Austin Smith (and any other goalie prospects they may have)? Makes me think that Travis Bobbee will be a for sure 20 year old next year and depending on various things with the other 20's and even Euro's will determine the status of these players too.

I was told during the import draft that both players drafted will be coming over.

Novotny will be at camp as far as I know but will then go and try to earn a pro contract.

He attended Oilers camp last season. Not sure if he's headed back there or somewhere else. I'm looking into it.
